For the past twenty years, Marla Bingham has developed her own distinctive voice among American choreographers. She has choreographed over thirty ballets for a number of professional companies and major dance school ensembles including the following:
the American Indian Dance Theatre, Chamber Ballet USA (Dir.: Finis Jhung), the Joffrey Concert Group, the Alvin Ailey Dance Center, Mississippi Ballet, Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theatre, and MBC Ballet.
Her Repertory includes classical pieces on pointe, to composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Max Bruch, where the form is classical and incorporates modern technique. At the other end of her creative spectrum, in a more modern and intuitive approach, she deliberately juxtaposes a wide range of dance vocabulary with musical sources and references borrowed from world cultures, including her own Native American heritage.
